ATC Band Riding High

Our hearty congratulations go to the Market Harborough ATC 1084 Squadron Band with more success recently at the South & East Midlands Wing Band Contest.  Competing were six squadrons, out of 29, from an area roughly from Derby to Wellingborough and Swadlincote to Stamford , that is Leics, Northants, and parts of Notts, Derbys and Lincs.

            The Squadron Band won the Full Band Competition, the Fanfare section and the solo drum contest, came first and second in the solo bugler contest and third in the percussion section.  This is the fifth time in six years 1084 has won the Wing full band contest.  It has qualified for the Corps Band Championships three times since 2002 (2002/3/7) winning it in 2003.

            The cadets ages range from 14 to 20 (average about 16) and the vast majority do not pursue any musical interest outside the squadron and are largely self taught.  As will be seen in our ATC feature on the centre pages, this is just one of the many activities the cadets take part in.
